The thing about 24/7 places is, sure, they’re convenient, but you’re gonna pay for that convenience.
I don’t care if it’s the corner store, your gym, a dentist’s office, whatever. They have to pay to keep the lights on, etc., and also for staff to either “mind the shop” around the clock, or be on call. You usually have to pony up to have someone on call all the time. Someone’s got to pay for it, and you’re that someone, princess!
Pay to Play
For the corner stores, most of them don’t even give you a receipt. That’s ’cause they don’t want you to see that they’re dicking you for about 20% sales tax!
I’m not saying these places aren’t great; I go to them all the time. But if it’s within “normal” hours, I’ll always shop at the non-24/7 places. I guess you could say that no matter what time of the day it is, really, you’re going to get screwed at these “all night” places, ’cause they still have to pay for that overnight shift, even if no one’s there.
I mean, hotels and things, I get that. But who really needs to be able to shop for table lamps and stuff at all hours of the night? These psychotics should be in bed. And if they’re out there on the streets, I sure as hell don’t want to be out rubbing shoulders with them! That’s a great way to get cut!
Basically, the 24/7 idea was a good one when it started and it was for shift workers, but now things have gotten out of hand. It’s just too damn much. We need to rein in all this horseshit before it gets really out of hand.
