Every time I send an e-mail to this one guy at work, he always “carbon-copies” half the division in his response. He does this even when there is no logical need to do so. And of course the boss and higher ups are always on the list. I can’t decide if he’s trying to somehow “cover” himself, or if he’s so arrogant that he wants everyone to read his replies.
Then there’s the woman who refuses to sign any document without having an attorney present. She insists on representation for every little thing! I’m talking about simple stuff, like a key to the office.
I think it’s a real shame that it’s come to this, but my husband is on the other side of the spectrum. He contends that it’s a cut-throat, dog-eat-dog world out there (I’m sure there are other clichés that fit here), and that since today’s companies will fire you at the drop of a hat, employees should be “prepared.”
I know things will never go back to the “good old days,” but I still don’t think it’s too much to ask for a little common respect and decency at work. We’re not animals, after all.
