I’m not paranoid, but I am prepared for anything. If someone plans to knife me after some evening event, I’ll be ready for them. If someone wants to run me off the road on the highway, I always have an “out.” I’m always on my guard for the moment when some thug wants to jump and rob me, or maybe try to beat my ass right there on the street. I’m constantly thinking about how easy it would be for someone to, say, throw acid in my face and run off.
Glance Over Shoulder
Whenever I pass someone on the street, rather than look them in the eye and smile, I see what their hands are doing; I’m ready for them to pull a weapon at any second. To that end, I don’t shake hands or hug. Hand-shaking gives someone the opportunity to pull you in close for a nice slashing, or maybe even propel you into a wall. Hugs are a great way to get literally stabbed in the back, or to end up with broken ribs and/or crushed internal organs.
You might think this is all “over the top,” but I have never been a victim of violent crime. I have to know that this is because of my vigilance. I won’t even go to a children’s birthday party without at least three concealed weapons! You just never know.
