Take That, Bear

pumphrey

What should you do when a bear attacks? If you’re 78-year-old Sonny Pumphrey, you punch it square in the face.

The North Carolina man (pictured) was relaxing at home when he spotted a mother bear and two cubs approaching his property. Pumphrey says the cubs ran off when they caught sight of him, but mama bear was looking for a fight, and attacked.

“She made a charging, dead run at me,” said Pumphrey. “That sucker was eyeball-to-eyeball.”

Pumphrey says he didn’t want to hurt the animal, but followed his basic instinct to defend himself and punched the bear in the nose. That’s when the animal started biting him. Luckily, Pumphrey was able to walk away from the attack with only minor scrapes and bruises.

Crack Complaint

Law-breakers aren’t especially known for their quick-thinking. Case in point: 62-year-old Dewayne Woods. Police in Evansville, Indiana say Woods visited a local precinct to complain about his crack dealer.

Woods calmly explained that his dealer was harassing him for a $400 unpaid loan from a prior drug transaction. Un-moved by the sob story, Woods was promptly arrested. The search continues for the duo who sold him the drugs.

Centenarian Gets Taco Surprise

taco-party-106-birthday

Life is good when you’re 106-years-old. Just ask Myrtis Jewel Painter. The jovial active senior (pictured) was treated to the party of a lifetime at a Taco Bell restaurant in Phoenix, Arizona.

Organizers say the fast-food eatery is Painter’s favorite, and that she patronizes the restaurant frequently. So, the franchise owner decided to help mark her birthday in style. Painter, who has lived in Phoenix since 1932 (when she was the ripe young age of 20), said she thoroughly enjoyed her special dinner of one taco and one enchilada.

Meanwhile, another centenarian in Florida visits his local Chick-fil-A restaurant every day to score the free meals he was awarded on his 100th birthday.

Diaper Bandit Caught

Police in New Jersey have nabbed a nappie ne’er-do-well.

For nearly a year, authorities searched for the person who has been littering roadways with dirty diapers. Now, 68-year-old William Friedman is in custody. Last weekend, he was caught in the act of dumping a truck full of the stinky drawers.

Police say Friedman had a few favorite spots to make his nasty deposits, which happened at least three times per week. During interrogation, Friedman copped to the diaper deed and said the soiled garments belonged to his grandson.

He faces various charges, as well as violation of township ordinances.

In-Flight Entertainment

It’s the last thing you want to see on a long journey. Police in Denver, Colorado say a man on a flight to South Carolina groped a female passenger and then began peeing on a seat. Now, 46-year-old Michael Allen Haag (pictured) has agreed to a plea deal, according to prosecutors.

It’s yet unclear what prompted Haag’s erratic behavior, but fellow passengers witnessed him drinking several double-vodka tonics leading up to the indecent exposure incident. He’s also charged with interfering with a flight crew, which is a felony.

Sausage Fest

Hermes Callijas-Gasperin

A Florida man is in jail after pelting his mom with sausages. Now before your mind goes to the gutter, we’re talking about actual dinner pseudo-meat here.

Police in Bradenton say 22-year-old Hermes Callijas-Gasperin (pictured) got miffed after his mother accidentally bumped into him whilst making dinner. And that’s when the young man flipped his lid.

He started throwing sausages at his mom, eventually hitting her in the eye. Callijas-Gasperin is charged with domestic battery and is now cooling his heels (sans sausage, we might add) in the county jail.
